Jane Barton, M.D.
Dr. Jane Barton is originally from Nebraska, where she received
her B.S. degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She
earned her M.D. from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia,
completed a rotating internship at Harrisburg Hospital
the following year, and served her ophthalmology residency training
at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Following her
residency, she worked with Dr. Turgot Hamdi, one of the pioneers
in intraocular lens implantation.
In 1981, Dr. Barton returned to Harrisburg and opened her practice. She brought the phacoemulsification procedure for cataract surgery to Harrisburg, performed the first corneal transplant at The Harrisburg Hospital, and was the first eye surgeon in the area to use topical anesthesia for cataract surgery (no needle). She was an active member of the teaching staff at Wills Eye for a decade after her training and has served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Harrisburg Hospital for 10 years.
Dr. Barton performed her first LASIK procedure in January 2000 and has done over 1200 procedures since. She uses the excimer laser in our Ophthalmology Laser & Surgery Center. Premier Eye Care Group continuously tracks our LASIK patients in an outcome study.
Dr. Barton has served as president of the Dauphin County Medical Society
and President of the Pennsylvania Academy
of Ophthalmology. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical
Society's task force on health care cost containment. She is certified
by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the
American College of Surgeons. Her other memberships include the
American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American
Society of Outpatient Surgeons.
