Gary Player Talks About the ReZoomTM Multifocal Lens Procedure

PLAYING IN THE MASTERS TOURNAMENT ONE WEEK AFTER THE REZOOMTM PROCEDURE

"It was quite astounding. I played in the MASTERS this year only one week after my ReZoomTM procedure in my left eye. And I got there and I was one of two people to birdie the 1st hole. And that was so encouraging because to go into a major tournament like the MASTERS just having had the operation one week before, I didn't think I'd be able to compete. Well, I shot a 79 on a very difficult course and beat many guys a lot younger than me!"

Multifocal lenses- for people over forty

Most people experience a change in their vision during their 40s that requires them to wear glasses for reading. This change in a patient's lens is known as "presbyopia". Traditionally a monofocal Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) replaces a cataract patient's crystalline lens and provides good distance vision, but reading glasses would be necessary for near vision. The advantage of the new multifocal lenses is that they can deliver near vision, distant vision and everywhere inbetween. Multifocal lens implants are proving to be so successful that people without cataracts are having multifocal IOLs implanted as a vision correction procedure.

Two recently developed multifocal IOLs have been approved by the FDA for cataract patients; the ReZoom IOL and the ReStor Acrysof IOL. Patients without cataracts may also consider these lenses as options for refractive surgery. Refractive lens exchange surgery is available to presbyopic patients who wish to consider the multi-focal IOL or the accommodating IOL. When a patient's natural lens is replaced by one of these IOLs, the patient has the benefits of a fuller range of vision.

The ReZoom IOL

Patients may be attracted to the new ReZoom lens because of the benefit of near, intermediate and distance vision all in one lens. The ReZoom lens is a second-generation multifocal lens with five optic zones. Clinical studies completed with the development of this new lens have shown that 92 percent of the patients receiving the ReZoom lens found that they never or only occasionally needed to wear glasses after their surgery. Patients generally require six to twelve weeks to adjust to this new visual system (multifocal lens implant). If you are interested in being less dependent on your reading glasses, the ReZoom lens may be just what you are looking for. "My experience with having cataracts removed has been nothing less than amazing. After 38 years, I am now free of contact lenses. I am so grateful to Dr. Brent and his staff at Premier Eye Care for making this a very pleasant experience. The surgery was painless and the results, for me, were immediate. After the first cataract was removed and the ReZoom lens implanted, I could not believe the difference in my eyesight. One week later Dr. Brent removed the cataract in my other eye and placed the second lens. In the interim between surgeries, I could really see what I had been missing. Cool Whip was actually white, NOT SEPIA. My only regret is that I did not do this sooner. It is wonderful to be able to see the world as it should be seen. Thank you Dr. Brent for making a difference."

"I lead an active lifestyle. Whether it is flying a private plane, SCUBA diving, or playing tennis, all of my activities have benefitted from my recent lens replacement surgery. Because I opted for the multi-focal lens, I have also been liberated from my pesky reading glasses---which never seem to be where I am when I need them!

Dr. Barton is a consummate professional, and her staff is extremely efficient. My experience with the Premier Eye Group was excellent, and I highly recommend them to anyone considering eye surgery."

The ReStor Acrysof IOL

A clinical study by the manufacturer of the ReStor IOL reports that 80% of the patients implanted with the ReStor Acrysof IOL never need to wear glasses for any activity. This lens offers a new IOL technology called apodization, which enables a patient to achieve a full range of vision with improved image quality. If you are considering this lens, you may wish to visit the ReStor website at www.acrysofrestor.com.

"I love being outside working in the yard. I had worn monovision contact lenses for years when Dr. Barton suggested implants for me. It's the best decision that I have made concerning my eyes. Now I can enjoy life without any interruptions concerning my eyes."

"I have been a patient of Dr. Barton's for over twenty-three years and have worn glasses for fifty-three years. Choosing the multifocal lens implants for my cataract surgery was a wise decision. Now I can able to see without the aid of glasses or contacts. I can read without glasses and also have very good distance vision. It's truly amazing!

Having these lenses have been a great benefit as my husband and I travel in our motor home. I am able to read the road signs at a greater distance and they are so much clearer. They also enable me to see maps and directions. My vision has truly improved."
